僅僅一年前推出了令人驚嘆的“Malleus Maleficarum”後，Pestilence 在隔年1989 年聖誕節馬上釋放出死亡/鞭金經典專輯，他們第二張專輯的音樂幾乎每個方面都比首張專輯有所改進。吉他Riff、人聲、solo、歌曲創作、所有其他無形部分都比《Malleus Maleficarum》更好，這使得《Consuming Impulse》成為任何死亡金屬、鞭金的必備品。它介於Death樂團的"Leprosy"專輯和經典瑞典死亡金屬之間，歌曲中有很多大量的律動。
